Life can be quite stressful at times, no matter how well you deal with it. But there are certain activities that will help you relax and recharge if you take the time to do them. Read on to find seven (7) activities that will help you relax and recharge to the fullest.

Activity #1 to Help You Relax and Recharge: Take a Bath

When bathing, use a bath pillow to make your bath more luxurious. Set up some relaxing music, pour in scented oils, turn the lights off, and fill the tub with water. Lean against the bath pillow and soak away the stress of the day.

Activity #2 to Help You Relax and Recharge: Play Games

Playing games allows you to relax by helping to veg out. What type of games might you play?

  • Action shooters, to help you get into the flow
  • Old school ‘Beat em up’ side scrolling or fighting video games

Activity #3 to Help You Relax and Recharge: Exercise

When you exercise, you stimulate blood flow everywhere in your body, including your brain. It also releases endorphins – the brain’s “feel good” chemical. When it’s finally time to sleep, exercise helps you get to sleep and stay asleep for longer. What type of exercise should you do? There are three (3) types.

  • Cardiovascular exercises get the heart pumping. Think of things like running, jumping rope, or intensive bike riding. Activity #4 to Help You Relax and Recharge: Sleep

The point is not just to sleep but for your sleep to be more relaxing, deeper, and more rejuvenating. Here are some tips for getting a better night’s sleep:

  • Make your bedroom as dark as possible. Use “blackout” curtains if you can. If not, consider wearing a sleep mask to block out more light.
  • Avoid caffeine late in the day. Chocolate, energy drinks, coffee, tea, or sodas all contain caffeine.
  • Don’t use a computer or phone or watch TV at least 30 minutes before bedtime. Don’t know what to do during that time? Read a book or journal on paper. Listen to relaxing music.
  • Get sun during the day to “set” your body’s circadian rhythms.
  • Exercise during the day – though you should avoid excessive exercise too close to bedtime.
  • Establish a consistent bedtime. Always go to bed and wake up at the same time – even on the weekends, on holidays, or while on vacations.

Activity #5 to Help You Relax and Recharge: Eat a Proper Diet

It may seem counterintuitive when you’re trying to relax to have to use your brainpower to determine what’s healthy, but in the long run, if you don’t, you’ll end up draining yourself further. Instead of making it an “activity” in the traditional sense of the word, make it a habit.

Activity #6 to Help You Relax and Recharge: Laugh

Laughter is the best medicine – it has benefits that bring people together, triggering good physical and mental changes. It enhances mood, reduces pain, and protects against stress. A good chuckle restores the mind and body quicker than anything else. Humor relieves stress, promotes optimism, builds community, and keeps you rooted, engaged, and aware. It also helps you forgive faster.

Laughing freely and often is a great way to overcome obstacles, improve relationships, and boost physical and mental health. It’s entertaining, free, and simple to use. As children, there were times we couldn’t stop laughing. As adults, we laugh less – sometimes because we need to be more serious. But other times, when we could laugh, we stifle it. Laughing can improve your mental well-being, enhance your relationships, find greater life satisfaction, and even add years to your life by laughing more.

Make “Friend Time”

Even if you have the busiest life imaginable and don’t have time for your friends, when you’re drained, sometimes it’s good to reach out to your friends. Reaching out doesn’t have to take long. It can be as simple as making a phone call, shooting over a quick text, or sending an email telling your friends they are important to you. If you have more time, you might consider grabbing a movie, going to the bar, or eating out at your favorite restaurant to catch up.
